Practical Tips for Traveling to Iquitos

Updated: Jun 25

Getting to Iquitos

The most common way to get to Iquitos is by plane. There are regular flights from Lima and other major cities in Peru. The Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport receives domestic and international flights. Once in Iquitos, you can easily get around by mototaxi, a fun and economical way to get around the city.

Best Time to Visit

Iquitos has a tropical climate all year round, with two main seasons: dry and wet. The dry season, from June to November, is ideal for those who prefer less rain and lower water levels in the Amazon, making it easier for hiking and other activities. The wet season, from December to May, offers higher rivers and better boating opportunities.

Safety and Health

  • Vaccinations: Before traveling to Iquitos, make sure you have the necessary vaccinations. Consult your doctor about all recommended vaccinations for the Amazon.

  • Travel Insurance: It is advisable to have travel insurance that covers activities in the jungle, as some areas may be remote and difficult to access in case of an emergency.

  • Hydration and Sun Protection: Stay hydrated and wear sunscreen, as the sun can be very intense in the region. It is also advisable to wear a hat and sunglasses.
